Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayaka Chauti is round the corner and we see so many blogs with dishes for the same. It is a important festival which is celebrated for ten days in some places. Ganesha idols are bought and beautiful decorations are made around with flowers and crafted motifs. Lord Ganesha is the eliminator of obstacles and also the Lord of wisdom and learning. He is the God of beginnings in rites and ceremonies, precedings take place in good thought and note. Various offerings are made to the Lord. Modak, kadabu, chakli, panchakajjaya and sundal are some of the usual preparations made during this festivals. Panchakajjaya is a simple offering that is made during this festival.

Recipe for Panchakajjaya
Ingredients:
Measurement used : 1 cup = 150 ml
- 1 cup bengal gram dal (chana dal)
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup sesame
- 1tablespoon ghee
- 2 cardamom powdered
Method:
- Roast bengal gram on a low flame, it should not get burnt. Let cool, grind it to a powder.
- Roast the desiccated coconut lightly for a few seconds.
- Dry roast the sesame seeds until they splutter and give a nice aroma.
- Grind the sugar.
- Take a wide bowl, add all the ingredients and mix well.
- Panchakajaya offering is ready for Lord Ganesha.
Dry roast bengal gram, sesame and desiccated coconut seperately. Grind the sugar along with cardamom. All ingredients are shown in the picture above.
Powder the roasted bengal gram in a mixer.
Add sesame to it.
And then the desiccated coconut.
Finally the sugar. Mix all ingredients along with ghee.
Panchakajjaya is ready for offering to Lord Ganesha.

Ingredients
- 1 cup bengal gram
- 1 cup desiccated coconut
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup sesame
- 1 tablespoon ghee
- 2 cardamom powdered
Instructions
- Dry roast bengal gram on a low flame. It should not get burnt and evenly roasted to a golden colour.
- Dry roast the coconut gratings for a few second.
- Dry roast the sesame until it splutters and is golden in colour.
- Grind sugar along with cardamom to a powder.
- Grind roasted bengal gram to a powder.
- Add all the ingredients in a wide bowl and mix well with hand.
- Panchakajaya is ready to serve
Notes
- You can reduce the quantity of desiccated coconut.

I’ve not heard of this special offering but it sure sounds delicious. We make something similar but don’t use grains but only coriander, fennel seeds, spices and sugar.

Never heard this before and nor tasted it. We are usually made panjiri as a blog Prasad prepared with whole wheat flour. Will try this next Ganesh Chaturthi.
I came to know about this Panchakajjaya once i entered blogsphere, earlier this prasad was quite an unknown one for me. Looks fabulous and prefect festive food.
We call this panch khadya and this I remember as a child doling our minuscule quantities as I wanted the major share. Lovely share.

We make panchakhadhya for Ganesh Chaturthi which is made from 5 ingredients loved by Bappa and which start with the letter Kh in Marathi. Never tried this Prasad with Bengal gram..but will try out this year..thanks for the share
That’s a lovely power packed snack! We make something similar in Punjab , called Panjeeri – a mix of slightly different roasted ingredients. You have reminded me of my grandmother.

We make something similar with roasted wheat flour for satnarayan pooja. This is very delicious and divine too.
I have never tried this dish, but we have something similar dish called Panjiri. Looks so divine and yummy.
